The herbalist behind the hedonism. Karma has been pioneering the festival and events drinks market since 2014. Having grown up in the events industry, the all too real effects of the high-octane lifestyle these events encourage was plain to see. Learning from the experience of others, the truth that runs parallel to this lifestyle is that; if you want to hit existence at full speed, then the building of resilience and relentless practice of self-care must be maintained to facilitate almost unceasing fun.
His exploration into health and nutrition led to studying a BSc in Western Herbal Medicine as training in the University Polyclinic commenced and experience grew, it seemed only natural to use the alcohol-extract tinctures prescribed to the patients within the cocktail bars to provide the physical and social effects observed as a student practitioner.
2017 brought the first opportunity to manifest a completely alcohol free cocktail bar at Meadows in the Mountain festival in Bulgaria. Collaboration with registered herbalist Paula Camacho resulted in the creation of a range of socially enhancing herbal elixirs. These drinks which lacked alcohol but still maintained a functional effect were received with raving reviews and opened our eyes to a world between poison and medicine.
After qualifying the BSc in Western Herbal Medicine in 2022 it is now time to launch forward into the future and provide a solution for those who struggle with self-control, a warm up for those who dive in too quickly and ultimately implement and maintain an environment of sustainable recreation.
What makes us unique?
Our mission is to bring herbs from out of the dark recesses of tradition and into the modern day world in a format that is pleasant to consume, bringing flavour and function. Although Alchemy was humanities first attempt to explain the wonder we experience in the world. Scientific reasoning and critical thinking has been the driving force to separate magic from medicine. And this underpins our approach every step of the way. Acknowledging that herbs have been used both medicinally and recreationally for millennia, making us far from the first group to enhance the social experience.
However, we are the first to bridge the gap between the boozy and booze free markets, encouraging unity within the community regardless of consumption habits. Providing social enhancement tailored to the individual that will equally complement a myriad of drinks both with and without alcohol.
To refresh the stale energy that is associated with traditional herbal medicine. Bringing influencers of youth culture into play to communicate this message through mediums that demand respect in order to make herbs, once again, cool for the kids.
Raise the profile of the humble medical herbalist and consistently encourage the public to learn how the herbs interact with the human body. Whilst always acknowledging that there is no comparison to the level of healthcare one can receive from the full workup given by every registered herbalist during the full consultation. (Links to finding your local registered herbalist below).
We will set up a community clinic within the UK which will provide free herbal consultations to the public, leaving only the cost of the medicine. Bringing a much needed service for members of the community with complex chronic conditions to complement and enhance treatments received through the healthcare system.
Wages of the herbalists working here and building and maintenance costs will be subsidised by the company. With plans to expand the community clinic operations and continue to open more sites across the UK.
We will work towards developing relationships with charities set up in Central America to build a fleet of sail powered ships suitable for the carbon neutral import/export of exotic ingredients.
